What a billion sources teach us about getting mentioned & cited in AI

San Diego, September 2026

We analysed over a billion sources and citations from our database to work out how AEO actually works, and it turns out to be a game with rules you can learn.

Every AI citation is one of two things: owned media (a page you publish) or earned media (a third party citing you).

That is the board. There are about six answer engines, and each reads from a different web (Claude uses Brave, ChatGPT and Gemini lean on Google, Copilot on Bing), so you are not playing one game but a handful, and it changes by industry.

Once you see the board, the moves are learnable and repeatable: a few plays to win owned, a few to win earned, and you know you are winning when your citation frequency climbs, how often AI actually cites you.

This talk teaches the room the rules, in the language they already use, proves them at a scale nobody else has, and shows them how to check their own score before they leave.
